Sarasota’s Christmas Boat Parade of Lights
One of my favorites! This year’s event is going to be the 30th annual Christmas Boat Parade of Lights. There are many great spots to watch the beautifully decorated boats go by. The parade starts on December 12th at around 6 pm from City Island and all the boats end up after completing a specified course at Sarasota Bayfront Park. The Ringling Bridge is a great spot to watch this spectacle. If you’d like to bring your lawn chair then you might want to go to Centennial Park or Bayfront Park. The boats will be judged after completing the entire course.
The boat parade is scheduled for December 6th and will start at 6 pm. Decorated boats and kayaks will start at Evers Reservoir, pass Jiggs Landing and end at Linger Lodge. Best places to watch the boats go by is Evers Reservoir, from your boat dock if you’re living on the river or greet the boaters at Linger Lodge.
Christmas Lights Around University Town Center
Take a drive on University Parkway from the freeway to about Honore Ave as well as up and down Cattlemen Rd/Cooper Creek and enjoy a variety of beautiful light displays. The trees, signs and stores are beautifully decorated this time of the year. In one of the retention ponds you might also find lit rowers and boats carrying presents. It’s a worthwhile drive and you might just want to get out of the car to enjoy the festive atmosphere.
Christmas At Grace
Grace Baptist Church is located off of Bee Ridge Rd, East of the freeway. Each year their “Story of Christmas in lights” draws large crowds. This is a free event and open to the public from December 12-27th from 6 -9 pm. They do accept donations to assist needy families during the holiday season. Have you seen any other beautiful holiday light displays in Sarasota and the surrounding areas? Mention them in the comment! We’d love to do them justice and add them to this list. Have a neighbor that goes all out for the holidays and decorates the house and yard? Give us the address and we’ll add them to the list so that all of their beautiful work gets the justice it deserves.
